My Teaching Vision

"If we teach TODAY as we taught YESTERDAY, we rob our children of TOMORROW."

-John Dewey (uncited)

Inclusive

A teacher should ensure inclusion in the classroom through differentiation, adaptive teaching methods and student-centered teaching.

Creative

A teacher should promote discovery, innovation, collaboration, and critical thinking through the use of creative curriculum and teaching methods. A creative learning environment requires the encouragement of open-minded, supportive, and collaborative students.

Supportive

A teacher should encourage a supportive environment in the classroom and be attentive to students' mental health. It is important for a teacher to balance challenge and work load under the consideration of each student.

Adaptive

An adaptive teacher is flexible and creative in their teaching methods. A teacher should be able to adapt their teaching in any situation, environment, or for any student. Student development is not linear and a teacher needs to be prepared for that.

Collaborative

In the classroom and in the staff room, a teacher should model efficient collaboration. For students, it is important for their socio-emotional and interpersonal development to experience collaboration with people of different ages and abilities. Therefore, it is the teacher's responsibility to create such opportunities.

Child-Centered

Although it is equally important to view a class a whole, the teacher should always consider the student as an individual with unique needs, wants and abilities. This means supporting the student holistically and challenging them within their reach. Though not always possible, lessons should aim to be student-centered with teacher as a guide.

Developing

As are the educational theories and methods, the knowledge, skills, and vision of a teacher should be ever developing. A teacher should strive to continue to learn and develop every day.
